a toll for a soul, a coin for a nap
while the raven’s eye watched soulfully
like odin’s, but kinder
at least to her –
if she was going to do this right,
she would need all the help she could conjure
and so she spoke to the spirits every night,
winning them over, easily for some
bargaining with others;
they all said yes in the end,
the raven made sure of this –
